Cancer treatment optimization

The research on this topic began in 2018 after realizing that the road traffic phenomenon (and optimization) has some similarities with ... cancer growth (and cancer treatment). Both processes can be modelled using cellular automata which are veru universal mathematical tools. In both cases, we want to find good settings of a control process (i.e., traffic signals vs protocols of radiotherapy) which can be evaluated using simulation, and we can do that using optimization algorithms (e.g., genetic algorithms). In both cases, simulations are time consuming so any way of accelerating them may be very beneficial. Therefore, we decided to apply the same techniques which gave very good results in case of traffic optimization.

We work on this topic in collaboration with dr hab. Monika Piotrowska and several students from the MIMUW Faculty. The current code repository is open source: https://github.com/banasraf/EMT6-Ro.
